Summer Youth Project
We are delighted to announce that our Summer Youth Project will return in 2022 with young performers taking part in the much-loved Disney’s High School Musical.
The Summer Youth Project is open to anyone aged 9 to 19 and has been running at Southend Theatres since 2010. The aim of Summer Project is to provide local young people with the opportunity to work in a professional theatre under the supervision of a highly skilled creative team including a professional director, choreographer, technical manager, musical director, and musicians.
Over the two-week project, the Palace Theatre comes alive to the sound of 80 children and young people working hard together learning their lines, rehearsing songs, choreography and even taking on technical role’s backstage. Year-on-year we receive praise and fantastic reviews for the high standards that the show produces with our talented cast of young people led by our professional creative team.
Whether you or your child would love to perform on stage or have an interesting in learning about the magic of backstage there is something exciting for everyone to be involved with. To work with our Technical Team on the production you must be aged 14-19.
This is a unique opportunity to experience the magic of theatre, whilst helping to build young people’s confidence, develop learning skills, make new friends whilst having fun in an imaginative and exciting environment. Our Summer Project is self-funding and non-profit making. The ethos behind it has always been to provide the best possible experience and training at the lowest possible cost to the local young people who want to get involved. It inspires children that may not have access to theatre and provides a crucial creative outlet for them during the summer holidays, we couldn’t be happier that we are able to resume with the Summer Youth Project in 2022!
“Summer Youth is an amazing company to be a part of as we are all one big family. My life wouldn’t be the same without it!” Eve – Summer Youth Project Participant.
