BASOP Presents Half a Sixpence
Wed 23 - Sat 26 May
Palace Theatre, Southend-on-Sea
Walking along the banks of a stream with his childhood girl friend Ann, Arthur Kipps finds a new sixpence, so before he goes off to serve as an apprentice in a drapery store in another town, Kipps has the coin cut in two and gives one half to Ann as a symbol of their love.
He finds that working at the drapery store is hard and very difficult but his luck changes when one day he discovers that he has inherited a fortune from his wealthy grandfather.
Sadly, with his new found wealth, Kipps soon forgets, not only all his old pals but also his ever faithful sweetheart Ann. As the story unfolds, he comes to terms with the fact that the shallowness of the lifestyle with his new aristocratic friends is just not his cup of tea.
This wonderful ‘feel good’ show, based on H.G. Wells story ‘Kipps’, with it’s fabulous musical numbers such as ‘Half A Sixpence’, ‘Money To Burn’, ‘If The Rain’s Got To Fall’ and of course the marvellous, toe-tapping, ‘Flash, Bang, Wallop’, will have you laughing and crying all along the way as Kipps realizes that all he really wants in his life is his true love Ann.
This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe).
